Difference between Matte and Gloss Finish Tiles

Ceramic, porcelain and stone tiles are available in a wide range of surface finish options. These include, polished, unpolished, matte, glazed, and gloss. This blog compares the features of matte and gloss finish tiles –

Matte Tiles –

Matte tiles are tiles that have a texture on them. For example: Wood look or wood textured tiles are matte finish.

These tiles are smooth, but not as smooth as polished tiles. This is why they provide better grip when walked upon. When used in bathroom, they are not slippery.

You find matte finish on ceramic-porcelain and vinyl tiles usually. But matte can also be found on painted or retouched tiles.

Gloss Tiles –

As the name may indicate, gloss tiles have glass like surface. These tiles are highly smooth and have an attractive reflect. They can be used any indoor walls, including that of your bathroom, kitchen, and living.

They do not make a wise decision for bathroom floor, as they get extremely slippery when wet. So, they should be used for floor after a thorough evaluation only.

Additionally, these tiles require cleaning more often; the shiny surface of these tiles looks dirty even if there is a small amount of dust or dirt on them. When cleaning them, you will need to wipe them multiple times with a clean cloth to avoid strokes.
